Topic Editor Loc Do (University of Queensland, Australia) and Editor-in-Chief Livia Tenuta (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA) announce a Call for papers entitled “Fluoride in the Spotlight: Balancing Benefits, Risks, and Regulation in Caries Control” in Caries Research, the official journal of the Organisation for Caries Research (ORCA).

Fluoride remains a cornerstone of dental caries control. As a highly prevalent non-communicable disease, it imposes substantial burdens on individuals and societies, disproportionately affecting socially and economically disadvantaged populations.

This Article Collection invites submissions addressing the use of fluoride for caries control in the context of ongoing scientific discussions regarding its benefits and safety. We welcome original research and reviews focusing on toxicology, efficacy, risk assessment, methodological approaches, public perception, and public health.

Interdisciplinary contributions are particularly encouraged, including studies that integrate scientific evidence with health policy development and implementation. Submissions exploring the role of political, regulatory, and societal actors in shaping policies for optimal fluoride use are highly welcome.

By bringing together diverse perspectives, this Collection aims to support informed, evidence-based decision-making and to advance global oral health through the appropriate and balanced use of fluoride.

Please select the option “Call for Papers: Fluoride in the spotlight” when submitting your manuscript and mention this Call for Papers in your cover letter. The submission deadline is 31 December 2026.

Article publication is subject to rigorous peer review in line with the journal’s editorial policies. Please refer to our author guidelines for further details about the publication conditions.

As a hybrid journal, Caries Research supports Open Access publications. Corresponding authors can publish Open Access articles at no or reduced cost if they are associated with or employed by one of these universities/institutions.
